Tuesday, April 26th -- THE MET AND THE BOOK OF MORMON ...
Central Park is a joy in springtime ... this springtime in particular! We both have been in Central Park before ... but never has it been as luminous and beautiful to us as it is now! During this visit to New York, we will walk across Central Park six times, covering about five miles. Barbara's pictures say it best ...
Himself with a statue of a Hero of a Past Age in the background ... it turns out the Hero is Shakespeare!
Tulip beds near "The Met" ... which means the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art!
Blooming tree near the Sailboat Pond ...
It is like being out in the countryside!
Young ballet dancers practicing in Central Park!
THE MET... that vast, splendid art institution on Fifth Avenue, halfway up Central Park ...
It's 10:00 AM -- the doors are opening!
I must confess, at the onset of today's Met experience, Goldilocks is a MUCH better student of art than I am! She seeks to UNDERSTAND and RECEIVE INSTRUCTION about the paintings ... whereas I wish to walk into the gallery in blind ignorance and see something that will hit me in the GUT! Be that as it may, we each have many GUT experiences as we view paintings in The Met today! Here are a few ...
Springtime by Pierre-Auguste Cot -- a 19th century painter popular with Americans...
Brother and sister painting by French master Bouguereau ,1871 ....
Belated Party on Mansfield Mountain by Jerome Thompson, 1858 -- I visited this mountain while my uncle had a farm in Stowe, Vermont ...
Schoolchildren being instructed about art in French...
An aspiring artist, perhaps?Springtime by Pierre-Auguste Cot -- a 19th century painter popular with Americans...
Schoolboys at lunch outside The Met ... the street carts sell hot dogs, kabobs, falafel, pretzels -- but no tacos nor burritos!
It is raining in the afternoon ... we have umbrellas but so do each of the other million persons occupying Times Square at that time ... this is not a fun navigation experience ...
Carmine's IS fun! Carmine's is a bustling historic Italian eatery that is an institution in the Theater District! We dine here before going to see "The Book of Mormon" at the Eugene O'Neill Theater...
Simply Lovely!
Portions are large so we split an order of excellent chicken and spinach in lemon and butter ...
We celebrate our 50th anniversary with ice cream in a chocolate shell ... this concoction had a cool Italian name but I forgot what it was!
The Lord Jesus, bathed in gold, points His finger at the protagonist and says, "You're a dick!"
Upbeat in message and enthusiastically presented ... we enjoyed ourselves watching it!
Now ... let's grab the Number 1 Train uptown and catch some needed Z's!!
Glad you are here with us ... stay connected!
Affectionately,
Baldy
